Seminar

Speaker: Professor Sayed Eid, Alexandria University, Egypt.

Date: Tuesday June 23th, 2009, at 09:00 am.
Room: Salle 406, 65-66, 4, Place Jussieu, 75252 Paris.

Title: "CMOS Image Sensing Technology".

Abstract:
The image sensor is the heart of the electronic imaging system. Electronic imaging systems have a wide range of applications that include scientific, medical, industrial, automotive, and consumer electronics applications. Scientific applications incorporate space-based applications for space exploration and other related objectives. Industrial applications include vision-based automation systems. Examples of consumer electronics applications are mobile phones and digital cameras.
This talk will explore the area of CMOS image sensing technology, which is inherently related to the following fields: imaging science and technology, semiconductor devices, analog circuits design, data converters, digital circuits design, and optical design.
Examples of specific applications will be illustrated throughout the talk.

Biography:
Dr. Sayed Eid obtained his Ph.D. from Columbia University (New York, NY, USA) in the area of Charge-Coupled Devices (CCD), an image sensing technology. He has also done applied research work in the related area of Charge-Injection Devices (CID). Since the early 1990's, he has been engaged in applied research work in the area of CMOS Image Sensors. Dr. Eid has over 20 years of extensive US-based applied research and development experience within the domain of image sensing technology and in the spheres of space, medical, industrial, automotive, and consumer electronics applications.
That extensive applied experience came to pass through his association with various organizations over the years. Among those organizations are: AT&T Bell Laboratories (Holmdel, NJ, USA), NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, CA, USA), Photobit Corporation (Pasadena, CA, USA), NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (Greenbelt, MD, USA), Gentex Corporation (Zeeland, MI, USA), United Microelectronics Corporation (Hsinchu, Taiwan), Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace (Toulouse, France), Austria Microsystems Corporation (Graz, Austria), and Hana Semiconductor (Ayutthaya, Thailand).
Dr. Eid is currently a Professor of Electronics in the Electrical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, Alexandria (his native city), Egypt.
